Police detain Naira Marley’s associate, Sam Larry over Mohbad’s death
The associate of the controversial musician, Azeez Fashola popularly called Naira Marley has been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command and presently in custody as at the time of filing this report to assist the authorities in unraveling the death of a Nigerian musician, Ilerioluwa Imole Aloba, known as Mohbad.
Penpushing reports that the Command Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed the arrest of Balogun Eletu, widely known as Sam Larry, adding that the suspect is currently assisting the police with the ongoing investigation.
The suspect had earlier posted a video on social media where he denied involvement in Mohbad’s death, insisting that he loved Mohbad while he was alive, but a footage captured Sam Larry storming Zlatan’s music video shoot and attempting to harass Mohbad
Penpushing further reports that both Sam Larry and Naira Marley have been at the centre of a public outrage over Mohbad’s death, while public suspicion linking them to Mohbad’s death arose from a video which surfaced online
The Marlian Records boss, has also been accused of bullying or ordering the harassment of the late singer an ex-signee of Naira Marley’s record label, who died at 27 under unclear circumstances on 12 September, 2023
Penpushing also reports that Naira Marley, a British-Nigerian musician in a press statement denied having a hand in the Mohbad’s death, and also denied claims he runs his Marlian Records label as a drug cartel.
“Permit me to categorically state that I have no hand in the death of Ilerioluwa, either directly or indirectly. The rumours regarding the label being a drug cartel are untrue. I am not a drug lord, nor do I, Marley, belong to any cult or fraternity. I’m dedicated to proving my innocence, and I’m cooperating with the authorities to clear my name with sufficient evidence’, he wrote
Penpushing reports that he explained that he had been abroad before Mohbad’s death, stating that stories were woven against him to destroy his reputation globally, and that he would be returning to Nigeria shortly to clear his name.
The controversial musician in the statement gave assurance in cooperating with the police authorities in their investigation and bid to unravel the circumstances surrounding the death of the famous Nigerian musician.
Penpushing further reports that Mohbad’s death has sparked controversies and a flurry of conspiracy theories, hence, police had to exhume his body and carried out an autopsy, which had been completed and result being awaited
Meanwhile, the Lagos State judiciary has also announced a coroner’s inquest, due to commence on Friday into the matter, at the instance of a human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).
