Piqued by snail-speed extradition process of Kyari by Nigerian government, America set to commence trial
The United States of America (USA) Government may have ignored the snail speed method of Nigerian Government towards extradition of the suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari, to face trial on $1.1million fraud.
Penpushing reports that, the America court, in view of this has rescheduled the trial of Abba Kyari and five others, for October 2022 for alleged fraud coordinated by Ramon Abbas, popularly called Hushpuppi.
The United States of America (USA) District Court for the Central District of California rescheduled the trial from May to October 2022 based on a joint request by the prosecution and three of Kyari’s co-defendants.
Penpushing further reports that, it is recalled that, the parties had earlier applied for postponement of the trial to give the defence lawyers of three of the defendants more time to prepare for the case.
The judge, Otis Wright, while ruling on March 29,2022 agreed that not granting the parties’ request could deny defence counsel the reasonable time necessary for effective preparation, taking into account the exercise of due diligence.”
Penpushing also reports that, Wright explained that it would unreasonably deny defendant continuity of counsel and could make proceeding impossible or result in a miscarriage of justice if the court rejected the postponement request.
The judge, however, postponed the trial from May 17, 2022, until October 11, 2022, while as at the time of filing this report, findings showed that, defendants shall appear in courtroom 5D of the Federal Courthouse, 350 W,1st Street,Los Angeles, California on October 11, 2022 at 9am
