People living with disability demands slot in Governor Abiodun’s cabinet

The People Living With Disability in Nigeria, Ogun State Chapter has requested for a slot in the cabinet of Governor Dapo Abiodun, with specific on agency or commission that will see to their needs

Penpushing reports that, the group in a statement on Sunday issued and signed by the Publicity Secretary, Abiodun Sheriff pointed out that  it will never be out of place to say that People living with disability are genuinely unique and dynamic in their form.

The coalition posited that in this view, demanded for separate office or commission to solely take care of their affairs without any interference from Ministries of agency of government,stressing that the office should be handled by the body

‘We demand a separate office or commission that will solely care for the needs and affairs of people with disability in Ogun state, without any interference from Ministries or agency of government, and this office or commission are to be handled and operated by the people living with disability because we understand where the shoes pitches the most’.

‘We also demand a representative in your cabinet Mr. Governor by appointing a commissioner or Special Adviser that will be someone with disability, who will table our requests and advised on possible solution.

Penpushing reports that, the statement noted that over the years, People Living With Disability in Nigeria have been labeled with all sort of discriminations that has make some of them incapacitated, depressed and hindered their strength to sprout, stressing that, even the deposited talents and gifts vanished because it lack consistent nourishment.

‘In Ogun state, People Living With Disability are continuously facing major hindrances and limitations in terms of inadequate policies and programmes of the Nigeria government, and Ogun state is not an exception’.

‘Though, during the administration of Otunba Gbenga Daniel, we were duly represented in his decision making cabinet, by appointing a Special Adviser on people with disability (Visually Impaired)’.

‘And the present administration ably led by Prince Dr. Dapo Abiodun (MFR), promised in his electoral manifesto saying “Social protection plays a key role in realizing the rights of persons with disabilities of all ages:  Provide vocational and academic training that will enable disabled persons become employable’.

The coalition noted that,other promises as espoused in the Governor’s promise include: to ensure an adequate standard of living; reduce levels of poverty and vulnerability, provide in all new public and government, facilities for disabled access.

Penpushing further reports that, the statement recalled that the Governor also pledged that, disabled access will be incorporated into existing buildings wherever possible, give qualified people with disability priority employment in the state civil service and ensure proper rehabilitation of destitute persons among others.

‘As the saying goes, ” The Words of A man is his status”, we want to believe this will be the exact demonstration of Governor Dapo Abiodun promise, as we know he is a complete gentle man with impeccable character’.

The coalition expressed optimism that, the Governor will leave leave indelible mark in their hearts with prompt response, and also wished the people and residents’ merry Christmas and prosperous new year in advance

‘We want to believe your administration will leave an indelible mark in our hearts with your prompt response to this call, we wish you successful tenure in office and Merry Christmas and prosperous year 2021’.
