Penpushing members get federal government appointments

The Nigerian Government has appointed three notable stakeholders on Penpushing platform as chairman and members of the extended special public programme under the National Directorate of Employment(NDE)

Penpushing reports that, its members who are the nominees include: Iyalode Alaba Lawson, Senator Gbenga Obadara and Comrade Yinka Folarin representing Ogun State alongside other seventeen appointees

The committees which cut across all 36 states and Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja have mandate for creation of 774,000 jobs across the country, while it is recalled that, in October 2019, President Muhammadu Buhari approved a Pilot Special Public Works Programme in the rural areas, domiciled in the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) for implementation.

Penpushing further reports that, the Special Public Works in the Rural Areas is an employment- intensive technique acquired and adapted by the National Directorate of Employment(NDE) from one of the capacity-building collaborations with the International Labour Organisation (ILO) in the late 1980s to the middle of the 1990s.

The pilot programme earlier approved by Buhari was designed to mitigate lack of job opportunities in the rural areas through a short-term engagement of one thousand unemployed persons per Local Government Area for a period of three months.

Penpushing also reports that, the jobs were designed as “a dry season/off season transient job programme and was originally designed for the rehabilitation/maintenance of public and social infrastructure.”

The Minister of , Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed, on Monday April 6, announced the approval for the extension of the programme to all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory(FCT) from October to December 2020.

Penpushing reports that, this was conceived as a programme directed at mitigating the effect of the coronavirus pandemic on the economy, while it is expected to provide modest stipends for itinerant workers to undertake roads rehabilitation and social housing construction, urban and rural sanitation, health extension and other critical services.

The Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo in April inaugurated a Special Inter-Ministerial Committee on the Extended Special Public Works, and in line with Section 16(1) of the N.D.E Act, special committees in each state of the federation have been set up for the purpose of deliberating, selecting and recommending the names of the 1,000 persons from each of the Local Government Areas in the States to be engaged for the programme.

Penpushing reports that, the Ogun State nominees as obtained in the list include: :Senator Gbenga  Obadara (Chairman),Dr Babatunde Ipaye (Vice Chairman) Iyalode Alaba Lawson, Bamgbade Adekunle(Coordinator Secretary) Oba Saburee Bakre( member),Oba Olanite Gbenga(member),Otunba Yusuf Adesanya( member),Salisu Shuaib(member) and Alatishe Akorede(member)

The other members comprises Rev Tim Ajibola,Oba  Sikiru Adetona, Alhaji Adewale Ismail, Mustapha Tiamiyu, Mrs Olayinka Odutayo, Damilola Sokoya, Adijat Balogun,Monday Olajorin,Abosede Aminu, Comrade Yinka folarin and Senator Iyabode Anisulowo
