PENPUSHING MEMBER LAUNCHES BOOK ON VIOLENCE IN MARRIAGE
On her own part, the Book Reviewer, Toun Okewale-Sonaiya gave kudos to the author for resounding initiative, stating that domestic violence was well dealt with in the book, and well communicated, as well as error free.
Okewale-Sonaiya who is the founder of the first Women Radio in Africa, and also a member of the Penpushing platform used the occasion to call on couple to be vigilant in everything they do, in the interest of a successful marriage.
She said, she worked with victims of violence for twelve years in United Kingdom, and was able to know the side effect of being silence when there is heat in a marriage, stressing that, we have a role to play to break silence in matrimonial crisis and condemn violence.
‘I work with victims of violence for 12 year in United Kingdom. And I can tell you the side effect of being silence when there are matrimonial challenges. We have roles to play to break silence. Being silence is global, as a result of culture, but it is more higher in our end here and we must break this’, she emphasized,
In her keynote address, titled,’ “When spouses kill the past and the future” Dr (Mrs) Tope Olaifa pointed out with dismay that, disagreement which could be amicably settled often leads to estrangement and destruction of the home if not promptly controlled.
She highlighted effects of domestic violence to include, hatred, economic losses, reduction in socio economic growth of the country as well as drug abuse and family separation, urging government and other stakeholders to proffer lasting solution to the menace
Prof. Sanni Lateef Oladimeji in his own remark called on couple to properly maximise the joy of marriage for the uplift of their immediate family and the society in general, stressing that husband and wife should therefore eschew violence which could have negative impact on their home, children and the nation.
He posited that, domestic violence has brought untold hardship and sorrow to many homes in the country.
Also speaking, a woman motivational speaker, Mrs Lilian Aman Aluko noted that domestic violence and abuse often leads to societal destruction.
