Penpushing media sets up 25-man technical committee to proffer solutions to fake news menace
Penpushing media has set up a 25-man technical committee to develop measures to stem the increasing trend of fake news across the globe, which is now becoming a threat for journalism practice, and to mitigate the negative consequences
The organization in a statement by its Chairman, Editorial board, Olufunke Fadugba said the inauguration of the committee which include cerebral participants and stakeholders on the platform followed the organisation’s advocacy in leading the fight against the menace and conveyors of fake news
Penpushing reports that, the committee expected to round off within one week is to work out modalities, proffer strategies and also implement action plans to make the world free of falsehood and fake news.
‘Following position of Penpushing Media advocacy in leading the fight against fake news across the globe, and end the negative consequences, the management/editorial board has set up a 25-man technical committee to work out modalities to achieve’, the statement reads.
‘The technical committee is expected to round off within one week and proffer strategies and also implement action plans. Thanks, as we rely on your competence, to make the world free of falsehood and fake news’, Fadugba informed the committee.
Penpushing further reports that, the technical committee include: Otunba Gbenga Daniel (former Governor of Ogun State), Kabiyesi Oba Femi Ogunleye(veteran journalist and former Group Public Relations Manager, Nigerian Airways) , Ronald Kayanja (Country Director, United Nations Information Centre, Nigeria) Dr Seyi Soremekun (Information Officer, United Nations Information Centre and Eddy Ademosu(Public Relations Expert)
The membership list also include, Tunde Lemo (former Deputy Governor, Central Bank of Nigeria), Sina Oduko (ICT expert), Abiola Afolabi-Akiyode(National President, Transition Monitoring Group) Emi Alawode ( Journalist), Prof Oye Ibidapo-Obe(former Vice Chancellor University of Lagos), Dr Wasiu Olatubosun(Commissioner for Information, Oyo State), Barrister Benjamin Ogunmodede(renowned legal practitioner)

Penpushing further reports that, the founder, Prince Dimeji Kayode-Adedeji at the 2020 lecture and award night organized by the Federated Chapel of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), held in Abeokuta, called for vigorous and joint fight against fake news, which on a daily basis is now becoming a trend across the globe, and a serious threat to journalism practice and the world at large.
The former Zonal Secretary of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), who received award of excellence in journalism practice bestowed on Penpushing media, which was presented by Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Edward Ajogun, declared that, it was high time a protest is organized against fake news and fake journalists.
Penpushing also reports, that, Kayode-Adedeji explained that the protest against police brutality, should serve as eye opener to correct number of atrocities in various organizations, stressing that journalism should not be exceptional.
The one time best journalist of the year awardee lamented that, journalism was under threat, following the rate fake news is spreading like wildfire, and almost becoming ‘truth’, to a number of ignorant and innocent people across the globe, hence, the need to rise up to the challenge of addressing the menace.
Penpushing also reports that, the founder dedicated the award to vigorously fight fake news, and declared that, the organization is equally prepared to lead protest against fake news dissemination, which he tagged, ’#Endfakenews protest’
‘I want to use this opportunity to openly dedicate this award to fight against fake news. It is high time we jointly wage war against fake news. And I am openly saying here that, it is high time we protest against fake, just as it was staged against police brutality. We at Penpushing ready to lead #Endfakeprotest’ across the globe’, Kayode-Adedeji emphasised.
