Man plunges into Third Mainland lagoon

A middle age man on Saturday jumped into the Third Mainland Lagoon in Lagos State in a manner suspected to be suicidal, while his identity was yet to be known as at the time of filing this report.

Penpushing reports that, the Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Nosa Okunbor who confirmed the incident, said the reason behind the man action was still unknown.

The rescue team of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA),were at the scene to rescue the victim, when filing this reports, and it is also on record that the incident is coming barely a month after the marine unit of the agency rescued a 36-year old man who plunged into the water at Lekki-Link Bridge.

Penpushing recalled that, the victim, Ikechukwu Ibeh, who was rescued within five minutes of jumping into the Lagoon in an attempt to kill himself said he wanted to commit suicide due to financial hardships and rejections.

The Lagoon has recorded number of suicidal attempt by various individuals who jumped into it, while some lost their lives; the lucky ones were rescued as a result of prompt response by the authorities responsible for rescue mission.
