PEACE CORPS OF NIGERIA APPOINTS OBA OGUNLEYE, PEACE AMBASSADOR
The Peace Corps of Nigeria (PCN), established as a uniformed Non-Governmental Organisation( NGO) for Youth development with a vision and mission to train, educate and re-orientate the youth of Nigeria for future leadership, is already accorded a Special Consultative Status by the United Nations’ Economic and Social Council (ECOSOCT).
Penpushing further reports that, the Nigerian Peace Corps (Establishment) Bill, 2019 (HB 17) has already been presented to the National Assembly in Abuja.
The traditional ruler while accepting the appointment called on all the three tiers of Government in Nigeria to prioritize youth employment and empowerment for acquisition of vocational capacity in order to pave way for lasting peace in the country.
Penpushing also reports that Ogunleye remarked that the most flaunted trade money by the Federal Government should not be limited to petty traders in selected places but should be expanded to accommodate youth employment and empowerment through vocational trainings.
‘The current trend where many youth in the country remain unemployed and not empowered towards gainful skills has made the teaming youth in the country susceptible to criminal tendencies and involvement in several vices that are injurious to lawful living and peaceful coexistence’, he said.
The monarch pointed out that for peace to reign in the country and the trending kidnapping, internet fraud and other crimes to abate, all accessories to unstable life of the youth such as hunger, unemployment and absence of national social security, must be positively contained through a national policy.
Penpushing reports that, Towulade however, commended the initiators of the Peace Corps of Nigeria concept and appealed to the National Assembly to speed up the passing of the establishing Bill in order to make the body statutorily compliant.
