Party chairman shot dead in Anambra state
The Young Progressives Party (YPP) ward chairman of Nanka Ward I in Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State, Joe Moghalu has been shot dead on Saturday night by masked gunmen.
Penpushing reports that the politician was killed a few hours after hosting a meeting of Young Progressives Party (YPP) members in the area ahead of a rerun election for Orumba North-Orumba South Federal Constituency.
The Anambra State Police Command Public Relations Officer Tochukwu Ikenga, however, vowed that the police will track down the killers, adding that the commissioner of police has issued out an order to hunt down the killers and bring them to book
Penpushing further reports that Ikenga, a Deputy Superintendent of Police in a statement on Tuesday, said the police commissioner condemned the killing, assuring that the authority has started work to unmask the killers
‘The command wishes to re-assure all law-abiding citizens, especially in Nanka not to be afraid but to join hands with the police in bringing the murderers and their sponsor to justice’, the statement emphasized.
Penpushing also reports that it is recalled that Chinwe Nnabuife of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) had been declared the winner of the 25 February House of Representatives election for the constituency, but the Court of Appeal in Abuja ordered a rerun in 13 polling units in the ward after her opponent of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP), Okwudili Ezenwankwo challenged her victory.
Meanwhile, the rerun, as ordered in the court judgement is expected to take place within the next few days, and will be between Mrs Nnabuife and Mr Ezenwankwo.
