OYO STUDENTS UNION TASKS GOVERNOR- ELECT ON EDUCATION FUNDING

The students’ leader pointed out that education is bedrock in which other developments hangs on, adding that who ever train a child has trained a nation, and therefore implored the incoming administration to uplift the education sector

Hear him ‘I want to implore the incoming administration in Oyo State to help the education sector because a lot of Nigerian students, particularly in Oyo State are suffering, therefore the incoming government should intervene by giving necessary support to the schools’.

Penpushing further reports that, Teslim   lamented that Emmanuel Alayande College of Education (EACOED) in Oyo has not been reopen since it was  shut,  a result of shortage of funds for the payment of lecturers salaries and allowances in the institution, adding that Oyo State College of Agriculture and Technology (OSCATECH), Igboora was also closed because of lack funds.

“Yesterday, I still meet with some aggrieved students of Ibarapa Polytechnic in Eruwa who have graduated for the past two years but they are not been giving certificate and they were yet to be mobilise for their National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme since their graduations, because the management of the institution claimed that there is no fund to accredit the schools for the program”.

The Chairman while speaking on the recent crisis that rocked Oke-Ogun Polytechnic in Saki where the Student Union Government (SUG) and the Student Representatives Council (SRC) were suspended before their reinstatement yesterday,  said that there are some pending issues apart from the increment in tuition fee students were agitating for.

“Lecturers are extorting students by mandating them to pay N1, 000 for course materials which is meant for a course named ‘Farm Practice’ Course code AHT 421. There was also a N2, 000 WiFi payment issue where students are to pay N2, 000 for what they didn’t enjoyed, all these together with the increment of tuition fee was what caused the crisis and it has been resolved”.

Penpushing also reports that, he, however, urged the government and all the management of these schools to always carry the students’ body along in whatever they want to do so that education in Oyo State will not be paralyzed.
