OYO STUDENTS CHAIRMAN, TREASURER ARRESTED OVER ALLEGED MISAPPROPRIATION OF FUND

The  duo as at the time of filing this report  are  being detained at the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Iyaganku, Ibadan, while it was gathered that the police initially arrested three of the executive members before the General Secretary and the Welfare Director joined them at the station.

Penpushing further reports that, after writing statement and interrogation, other executive members were released, while the Chairman and the Treasurer were detained as investigation is said to be on going.

There were various submissions from different factions within the students body over the development, while a source who claimed anonymity on Monday said that Asubiojo led association was petitioned for wrongfully selling a bus belonging to the body.

 “They sold the association’s bus; it was those who contested against him in the last election that petitioned the Police. I was told that he sold the bus but, they used that one to hook him”, a factional soured said

Penpushing also reports that, another source said that the detained officials were petitioned by some aggrieved members of the union over misappropriation of funds.

The Oyo State Police Command Public Relations Officer, SP Olugbenga Fadeyi when contacted confirmed the arrest, saying that the duo are still at the detention because they could not meet the bail conditions.

Penpushing reports that, Fadeyi said the suspects were arrested following a petition that they have embezzled the association’s funds, adding, “Yes, they were arrested because there was a petition against them. They are still under investigation; they are being investigated because there was a petition against them.

“They would have been released because it is a bailable offence, but they have not been released because they have not seen a surety that will stand for them. You know, the police, we cannot just release somebody just like that, they have not seen sureties that will stand for them.”
