OYO POLICE UNCOVERS ILLEGAL CORRECTIONAL CENTER IN IBADAN, FREES 259 VICTIMS
The police boss while speaking with journalists at the scene of the incident said that 4 suspects have been arrested in connection with the illegal correctional centre, explaining that the one storey building where almost 300 inmates were chained and maltreated is located at the back of Olore Mosque, Ojoo, Ibadan.
The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Inclusion in the State, Alhaja Fusat Ajoke Sanni, while speaking with journalist during the evacuation noted that the situation was very pathetic, adding that the state government is currently on top of the situation.
“We got a distress call in our office this afternoon, and we came immediately to the scene of the incident, we have make arrangements to evacuate some of them to the hospital, as well as our correctional homes’.
Penpushing further reports that some residents of the area who spoke with journalists said, the suspect had been arrested for the same crime sometime ago in 2007 but was later released by the power that be.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the State SP Olugbenga Fadeyi said that the victims will be taking to the reformation centers in order to give them urgent medical attention, so as to be able to take a good care of them, adding that, “Oyo State government is involved in the evacuation process, and the police are currently investigating to unraveled the incident’, the police spokesman said.
