OYO POLICE COMMAND ARRESTS SUSPECTED ILLEGAL ARMS DEALER WITH 10,000 LIVE AMMUNITION
The Commissioner added that, the suspects have been terrorizing members of the public within and outside Ibadan metropolis and other parts of the State, but were sighted in their hideout at Oke-Bola Area of Ibadan.
“Sequel to this information, a team of Operatives from SARS swung into action and in the process, four of the hoodlums who later identified themselves as Adekunle Abimbola, Abel Kojo, Mukaila Ariyo, and Ade Adebayo were arrested in Ibadan in the said hideout, ten thousand pieces of live catridges, an unregistered Toyota Sienna LE mini bus, and a Toyota Camry with registration number Lagos GGE 979 FT were also recovered from the hoodlums’.
The Commissioner explained further that it will be recalled that the aggressive drive put up by the Command through proactive approach and sustainable community policing strategy has continued to get positive result and giving the police an edge above criminal in Oyo State.
“The officers and men under my watch have continued to put up spirited efforts to ensure high level of professionalism and tolerance in demonstrated when carrying out their constitutional responsibility of the protection of life and property, criminal in Oyo State have not been a safe haven to carry put their dastardly acts of unleashing terror or innocent citizens due to constant raids and routine patrols of all nooks and crannies of the state.”
Penpushing further reports that, the Commissioner of Police however urged the members of the public to be wary of criminals particularly during this El del Fitri festive period.
“Members of the public should be careful of the place they go, and people should be careful of whom they associate with, and they should know that adequate security of their life and property is guaranteed”, the police boss said
Penpushing also reports that, one of the suspects, Abel Kojo, while speaking to journalists confessed to the crime, saying that although he didn’t have license for arms dealing, but his intention was to sell for the hunters and anybody that uses the arms other than that of hunting, is differ from his idea.
“I have been doing the business over a year now, and my intention was to sell it to the hunters for hunting, I don’t plan to sell it to wrong hand, and anybody that used it for negative purpose is differing from my idea.”
Penpushing reports that, in the same vein, the Command has also arrested three members of a notorious armed robbery syndicate who specializes in dispossessing members of the public of their exotic cars.
“One Ayodeji Joshua was attacked at Eleyele area of Ibadan, gunshots was fired at the victim and also dispossessed him of his Nissan Armanda Jeep and other valuable items, two of the hoodlums later forced the victim inside the boot of the car and drove him off from the area while the third suspect escaped with the Bajaj motorcycle that was used for the armed robbery operations’,
‘ But on distress call, the vehicle was pursued by the police patrol team, in a bid to escape, the robbers on getting to Ring road area of Ibadan, the hoodlums used the robbed Armanda Jeep to intercepted another Toyota Camry car, attacked the occupants and also dispossessed them of their valuable items at gun point.”
“The hoodlums abandoned the first Armanda Jeep and escaped with the Toyota Camry car, but the police team continue to pursue them, as a result of this, the hoodlums later had a serious accident while fleeing from the scene at Agodi area of Ibadan due to a hot chase by the police operatives, one of the hoodlums who later identified himself as Folorunsho Adekunle was arrested while his other syndicate member managed to escaped. Two robbed vehicles, one locally made pistol, three live cartridges and cash sum of Eleven thousand were recovered from the suspects”
