OYO GOVERNOR-ELECT, SEYI MAKINDE RECIEVES CERTIFICATE OF RETURN, PLEDGES BETTER LIFE FOR OYO PEOPLE
The ceremony was supervised by the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC), National Commissioner in charge of Oyo, Osun, and Ekiti States, Prince Adedeji Shoyebi.
Penpushing further reports that, the Governor Elect in his acceptance speech, thanked all the people of the State for giving him their mandates, adding that,’election has come and gone, it now requires our collective effort and hard work to make life better for the people of Oyo State”.
The incoming Governor, however urged all the newly elected members of the Oyo State House of Assembly to cooperate with his administration so that the State can move forward.
Earlier in his remark, the Resident Electoral Commission in Oyo State, Barrister Mutiu Agboke said that the certificate of return that was issued to the winners serve as the ultimate confirmation of an election victory, which was backed by Section 75 of the Electoral Act 2010 as amended.
The electoral boss recalled that 42 Governorship candidates contested for the Governorship seat ,while 659 candidates were nominated by 46 political parties to contest for the 32 seats in the Oyo State House of Assembly.
Penpushing also reports that, Agboke added that out of the 32 members elect of the State Assembly, 30 of them were fresh members while the remaining two renewed their mandates.
“Oyo State INEC carried messages of voter mobilisation and sensitisation to the media houses, religious, traditional rulers, market leaders, door to door initiatives, and engagement with Civil Society Organisations”, he recalled.
The commission chairman disclosed that 17 petitions are presently before the Oyo State Election Petition Tribunal, noting that these include 4 Senatorial and 13 House of Representatives petitions.
“Filling and hearing of election petitions falls into post-election activities as aggrieved candidates are given the opportunity of presenting their grievances before the judiciary”,Agboke stated,just as he advised winners of the elections not to downplay the dreams, feelings and expectations of their constituencies and the electorate in general’
The electoral umpire also noted, that voters in some cases risked their life’s, sacrificed their comfort, shunned intimidation and harassment to cast their ballot for them.
Penpushing reports that, dignitaries at the event include; Aare Musulumi of Yoruba land, Alhaji Daud Makanjuola, Oyo State Director of National Orientation Agency, (NOA) Mrs. Dolapo Dosumun, Alhaja Abosed Adedibu, Chairman of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Pastor Benjamin Akanmu, and Security Chiefs in the State among others.
