The affected staff noted that they are entitled to some benefits (money), having served the institution for certain numbers of years as stated in their letters of appointments, just as sources said 147 teaching and none teaching staffs of the University were sacked between December 2019 and June 2020.
Penpushing further reports that, the sacked staff lamented that some of their colleagues were already at the peak of their careers, while others were approaching their retirement age, and they felt cheated.
“NUC is yet to approve the said collegiate system the institution was claiming. We felt cheated and we want justice because the process of our disengagement was illegal, our letters of appointments was till our retirement”, they emphaised
Penpushing also reports that the counsel to the claimants, Ibrahim Ojo in his remarks said his clients were seeking redress in court so that the their former employees (BOWEN ) can granted them their entitlements and benefits.
“The matter was slated for hearing today, but due to failure of counsel to BOWEN to file and served their processes, the case was stalled and this necessitated adjournment of the case to May 31, 2022 by Justice Opeloye Ogunbowale. The court also awarded N55,000 against BOWEN for their failure to do what they ought to have done”, the counsel said.
