Osoba, Amuka lead Nigerian editors to Enugu convention

Former Governor of Ogun State Chief Olusegun Osoba and his old-time professional colleague, Sam Amuka-Pemu would be leading Nigerian Editors to the convention of the Guild scheduled to hold in Enugu.

Penpushing reports that President of Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) Eze Anaba and Iyobosa Uwugiaren,(General Secretary) made this known in a statement explaining that the Biennial National Convention will take place between 26 to 29 June, with a theme ‘’Building A Secure And Cohesive Nigeria: The Role of Dialogue, Inclusion And The Media.”

The statement said the convention will bring together over 400 editors, including prominent figures which include Onyema Ugochukwu, former Presidential spokesperson; Nduka Obaigbena, Chairman/Editor-in-Chief of THISDAY/Arise News Channel, and John Momoh, Chairman of Channels Television.

Penpushing further reports that the statement added that the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, will open the convention, while the Governor of Enugu State, Peter Mbah, will serve as the chief host.

The statement stated that while Momoh will chair the convention Amuka-Pemu, Publisher of Vanguard newspapers, as well as Osoba, and Ugochukwu, have been assigned roles as Fathers of the Day.

Penpushing also reports that the Guild added that Director-General of the State Security Services (SSS), Oluwatosin Ajayi, will deliver the keynote address, titled ‘’Nation’s Security Future: Harnessing Diversity for Peace/Stability and the Media’s Role.’’

The statement said the National Security Adviser (NSA), Malam Nuhu Ribadu, will also be a special guest at the national convention, adding that on the importance of the theme, the body emphasised that a nation’s security and stability can be enhanced by leveraging its diversity and that the media plays a crucial role in promoting this goal.

Penpushing reports that the statement said the Guild noted that diversity is a source of strength, creativity, and innovation, and that inclusive governance ensures that all segments of society are represented and included in decision-making processes.

The statement highlighted the media’s social responsibility in promoting diversity, tolerance, and understanding and the importance of national security and stability, stressing that the media can achieve this by highlighting diverse perspectives and experiences among others.

‘The media can achieve this by highlighting diverse perspectives and experiences, combating hate speech, misinformation, and stereotypes, and fostering dialogue and understanding among different groups’’, the statement added.

Penpushing further reports that the Nigerian Editors said the three-day convention will also witness the election of new executives who will pilot the affairs of the professional body for the next two years.
