Grandma escapes death during stampede for food at venue of coronavirus vaccination flag off in Ogun state

An aged woman has narrowly escaped being trapped to death while struggling for free meal during the flag off of coronavirus mass vaccination campaign held in Abeokuta, Ogun State Capital.

Penpushing reports that, the incident occurred shortly at the end of the exercise, about twenty minutes after the Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun and other top government officials and notable personalities had left.

The Government apparently as part of efforts to put smiles on faces of number of political and social groups in attendance had organized menu for them, a gesture which almost turned sour at Arcade ground venue of the exercise at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

Penpushing reports that, as soon as the food distribution started, a struggle ensued, in frantic efforts to get packaged cooked rice, the aged woman was not left out in the struggle but met stiff opposition as people scramble for the food.

The granma was subjected to harrowing experience, and as she was also struggling to get a plate of the food, she was knocked down by the crowd; having lost her steps, she fell on the concrete floor and almost passed out.

Penpushing further reports that, the fell of the woman whose age is estimated to be 70 caught attention of many people, while others continued in the struggle to get the food, as the woman was writhing in pain on the floor.

The quick intervention of a man at the scene, saved the old woman, who quickly came to her rescued and lifted her, from the floor, as other Samaritans among the crown were seen profusely apologizing to her.

Penpushing also reports that, the aged woman who was identified as a member of of the political groups to participate in the exercise was later offered a plate of the food, and thereafter assisted out of the venue
