ONE MILLION VOTERS RECEIVE PERMANENT VOTER CARDS IN OGUN, SAYS ELECTORAL COMMISSION
The theme was, ’Women Participation and 2019 General Elections; Rationale and Challenges’ and had in attendance women groups as stakeholders which cut across the State
Penpushing further reports that, the electoral commissioner represented by Adenike Tadese ,Head Voter Education and Publicity also disclosed that as at February 712,000 prospective voters were yet to collect the Permanent Voters Cards (PVC’s), while 2,375,003 cards already cleaned, published and given to political parties as constitutionally stipulated
The commission said it also engaged in voters’ education and awareness which include media interaction, market outreach, advocacy visits to traditional rulers and religious leaders, as well as jingles being aired on electronics media in the State.
The electoral boss added that other steps taken ahead of the poll include; regular interaction with youth corp members, meeting with Persons with Disability, visits to workshops and tertiary institutions, attendance of seminars and workshops and rallies.
Penpushing also reports that the commission disclosed that, over 20,000 have been recruited as ad-hoc staff, with 10,000 security officials required at three personnel per polling units for 3,210 polling units, while electoral data shared with security agencies for planning,coordination and effective security coverage
Speaking on logistics, the electoral umpire said 2,500 buses are required to lift about 30,000 personnel to various election centres, adding that in this regards Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) already signed with National Union of Road Transport Workers(NURTW)
He said, non-sensitive materials have been received, card readers needed are already with the commission and prime for action, adding that vehicles and boats shall be tracked where and when necessary
‘The commission therefore seeks the cooperation of all stakeholders to enlighten and mobilize the citizenry to come out and vote,to be calm and eschew violence in order to maintain peace, before, during and after election’, he emphasised
