Oluomo arraigned for N2.5billion fraud
The embattled Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Olakunle Oluomo, was on Monday arraigned before a Federal High Court sitting in Oke Mosan, Abeokuta, having being dragged to court by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), over alleged misappropriation of public funds amounting to N2.5 billion.
Penpushing reports that Oluomo who was impeached last week by his colleagues, but insisting that he remain the speaker was docked alongside two other career officers of the Assembly, Dayo Samuel and Adeyemo Adedeji.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) told the court that the impeached speaker allegedly committed the fraud while serving as the Speaker of the Assembly in 2022, however, after the trio entered the dock, the court discovered that the counsel to the crimes commission was absent.
Penpushing further reports that Justice O.O Okeke, thereafter, adjourned the case to February 29 and March 1, 2024, while it is recalled that 18 out of 26 lawmakers recently signed his impeachment over allegations bordering on high-handedness, gross misconduct, arrogance, poor leadership style, lack of focus and transparency, and pitching members against themselves.
