
Go to London to accompany Buhari’s corpse back to Nigeria, Tinubu orders Shettima
The Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu has ordered Vice President Kashim Shettima to travel to the United Kingdom so as to accompany Buhari’s body to Nigeria, following his demise at a London hospital.
Penpushing reports that Tinubu gave the directive in a statement by his spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga indicating that the body will be brought to Nigeria for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.
‘President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced the passing of his predecessor, President Muhammadu Buhari. President Buhari died today in London at about 4.30 p.m., following a prolonged illness’, the statement reads.
Penpushing further reports that the statement added that Tinubu has spoken with widow of the late former President Mrs Aisha Buhari, and offered his deep condolences.
‘President Tinubu has also ordered Vice President Kashim Shettima to proceed to the United Kingdom to accompany President Muhammadu Buhari’s body back to Nigeria. Former President Buhari was twice elected Nigeria’s President in 2015 and 2023’.
Penpushing also reports that Onanuga in the statement stated that the President has ordered flags at half-staff as a mark of respect for the departed leader, recalling that the deceased served as military head of state between January 1984 and August 1985.
