Similarly, government has commenced intensive sensitization and surveillance at the border communities to ensure efficient immunisation coverage a pro-active measure at preventing measles epidemic in the State.

This was made known by the Commissioner for Health, while, featuring on a monitored Television programme in Abeokuta, noting that measles was a contagious and highly infectious disease which could be transmitted through cough, noting that immunisation remained the simplest way of curbing it.

His words ‘’Measles is a contagious and highly infectious disease. It weakens the immunity, affects all organs of     the body, can cause blindness and pre-mature death.  Measles can be contacted most especially through coughing and the simplest way of eliminating it is through immunisation.’’.

Ipaye listed other factors that could worsens measles to include malnutrition, overcrowding, resulting from migration of more people to urban centres, adding that trained personnel have been dispersed to border towns to guard against infectious travellers bringing any disease into the State.

 He said  the programme which would runs from Thursday, March 1 to Tuesday, March 13, 2018, would cover religious centres, market places, schools and households and advised parents to make their children between 9 months to 59 months available during the exercise, especially those who missed or did not complete the routine immunisation programme, urging people to engage in constant and regular check-up to ensure a measles free society
