Ogun state students accuse Peoples Democratic Party of using fake students body to boost campaign rally
The National Association of Nigerian Students(NANS), Ogun State Chapter has accused Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) of engaging fake students to boost its campaign rally ahead of the forthcoming 2023 general elections in the state.
Penpushing reports that, National President, Gbemileke Ogunrombi and Damilola Kehinde(State Chairman) made the allegation in a statement to fault the presence of the alleged so-called students claimed to be representatives of the association at the rally held on Friday by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The students body declared that Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) and its Governorship candidate, Hon Ladi Adebutu should stop creating impersonation for the students constituency, stressing that those who claimed to be members of the students association of the state are fake
“The attention of the students bodies in Ogun State has been drawn to the unbelievable movie acted at the campaign event of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the state. The comedy like movie shocked us as we watched an unknown face addressed the campaign gathering as the representative of the students in the state”, the statement reads.
“It is only disappointing that the party will stoop so low to hire unknown face from another state or wherever it is to just play their political gimmicks. More so, the individual used to carry out this impersonation could not coordinate his speech and he appeared like a road side thug packaged for that petty purpose. This person does not represent the responsible and articulate student community in Ogun state”, the statement emphasized.
“To further set the records straight, the charlatan and imposter claimed he was speaking for the over 30,000 Nigerian students which is far below the population of the students constituency in Ogun state as the constituency can proudly boast of over 100,000 students”.
“He further claimed that the last time bursary was paid to Ogun students was 11 years ago a fallacy far from truth as records have shown that the prince Dapo Abiodun led administration had paid bursary to Ogun students with an all time increase to what was obtainable in previous administrations”,
Penpushing further reports that, the statement said the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) and National Association of Ogun State Students (NAOSS) remained the apex students bodies that represent all students schooling in the state and all Ogun state born students anywhere in the world respectively.
“To state the fact, none of the associations can identify the unknown face who claimed student representative at the campaign today. We therefore want to set the record straight by informing the public that the students constituency of Ogun State was not represented at the campaign gathering”.
“Our interest is discussing issues that may be beneficial to the education sector in the Gateway state. The Peoples Democratic Party with the Ladi Adebutu campaign team should have dignified themselves by approaching the associations with their plans and programs for education in the state rather than going by the unscrupulous means to impersonate the students constituency. We advised them to shun this style going forward as it is too bad for a party/candidate seeking political power to do so with deception” the students said.
Penpushing also reports the Public Relations Officer of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Asiwaju Akinloye Bankole in reaction said the party will not be desperate to descend so low to do that
“However it is just natural for any sinking man to hang on to any strand of hair or plant to safe himself from imminent drowning. Again, it is important to inform the public that PDP is never a desperate political organization that would descend so low to “cloning”or impersonating the genuine faces of the leadership of the student bodies in Ogun state for political gains”
“May it also interest you, that PDP, through its youth Wing has loyal memberships of countless number of students across the 13 tertiary institutions domiciled in Ogun state. Just few of them were in attendance at the party’s campaign flag-off yesterday”, he said
.
“We cannot blame Dapo Abiodun and its rejected APC for this kind of reactions to the unprecedented show of acceptance, display of true readiness and outright signal of determination expressed yesterday not only by the student bodies but by the good people of Ogun state”.
“APC should know and accept the fact that power, truly belongs to the people. The people are determined to take it back from the APC ‘s shackles of lack, gross insensitivity and blatant maladministration”, Bankole emphasized
