
Ogun state secretary to government charges parents to promote girl-child careers in science, technology
The Secretary to the Ogun State Government, Tokunbo Talabi has charged parents to promote girl – child in the study of science and technology pointing out that they are gifted with intuitive intellectualism to attain greater height in their chosen careers
Penpushing reports that Talabi gave the charge when he received the delegation of Abeokuta Girls’ Grammar School Old Girls Association (AGGSOGA) who paid him a courtesy visit as part of activities marking the 70th Anniversary of the School at his office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta
The scribe said the association should look into how to provide more supports to the school in the area of girl child counseling to be more focused and pursue better careers that would make them attain greatness in life.
Penpushing further reports that he emphaised that we can have more girls running out well academically, if they are well nurtured and counselled, stressing that the old students who are now mothers and grandmothers have a lot to offer the young girls in their alma mata.
The Secretary to the State Government added that they should impart knowledge on the girl child at home, noting that it was old fashioned to impose stern corporal punishment on girl child but rather be counselled and mentored to excel without being wayward.
Penpushing also reports that Talabi recalled being at a convocation ceremony of one of the reputable and prestigious universities in the country, where the overall best student award went to a female student, just as the best student award in A.
‘When you were in school, most of you could boast of the moral standard of the schools, but it is not so today, this is where we need Alumni Associations like yours because government cannot do it alone’, he stated.
Penpushing reports that he said parents, need to offer more of counseling and mentoring as parents and grandparents to the young ones, assuring that government would not relent at improving the educational standard and learning environment in schools.
The scribe noted that a major rehabilitation and renovations of Science Laboratories would begin in matter of weeks, explaining that, the Governor remain committed towards exposing public school students to teaching and learning of Science and Technology to broaden their horizon.
Penpushing further reports that Talabi called on the Alumni Association of Public Schools across the State to support government in maximising the opportunities that were accruable from Science and Technology to better the lots of the students.
The Secretary to the state government assured that, the Governor would support them in their celebration, saying that 70 years was a milestone worthy of celebration.
Penpushing also reports that the Global President of Abeokuta Girls’ Grammar School Old Girls Association (AGGSOGA), Chief (Mrs). Solape Ajibola, earlier speaking appreciated the Governor for the hospitality, describing him as a people-oriented Governor.
Meanwhile, among the delegation were, the former Ogun Head of Service, Mrs. Amope Chokor, Director of Planning, Research and Statistics in the State Ministry of Information and Strategy, Mrs. Toluwalope Kowo, among others.
