Ogun state secondary school students break head of divisional police officer

The students of Egba Comprehensive High School and Asero High School in Abeokuta on Monday engaged in a violent clash, resulting in the break of head of a Divisional Police Officer, who led his team to quell the bloody clash

Penpushing reports that, the cause of the clash between the students, which was yet to be known as at the time of filing this report, also led to blockage of the road leading to the two schools, a stone throw to each other along Asero road in the town,

The violent students in the course of the fight were hurling stones and missiles at themselves, a development which saw many residents, passerby running helter skelter, and caused traffic jam on the busy road

Penpushing further reports that, the Divisional Police Officer of Obantoko, Ignatius Alimeke, a Superintendent of Police who led his men to quell the fight, was allegedly attacked by the students, who pelted stones and missiles on him, which landed on his head, causing serious injuries with laceration.

The Ogun State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the incident, adding that following reported fight between the students of the two schools, the Divisional Police Officer mobilized his them to stop the fight, when he was attacked, but said no arrest was made

“The DPO was hit by stones. The students were throwing stones and other objects at themselves during the fight. We cannot arrest the students because they are minors. We can only detain and counsel them, after which they will be released.”
