Ogun state police commissioner opens window of amnesty for cultists

The Ogun State Police Command has opened a window of amnesty for suspected cultists with a condition to come forward to renounce membership and handover all arms and ammunition in their custody to the command.

Penpushing reports that the Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu gave the condition on Tuesday while parading some suspects at Eleweran Police Headquarters in Abeokuta, for various criminal offences.

The police boss in view of this, however, gave the cultists a month grace to do so, declaring that anyone who failed and eventually caught during a total clamp down on them, will have cause to regret, as the authorities will descend on them heavily

‘We are aware that some people were lured into cultism without knowing the implication, and so they got trapped. The Command has opened a window of amnesty to such people. So they should renounce their membership of various groups and surrender all arms and ammunition in their custody’, Alamutu emphasized.

‘They have a period of one month to do that. After the period of one month from today 11th July 2023, there is going to be a total clamp down on all known and unknown cultists who are perpetrating heinous crimes in the State, because the command will not fold it arms while some unscrupulous elements will be making life unbearable for the good and law abiding indigenes and residents of Ogun State’, he added.

Penpushing further reports that Alamutu recalled that on his resumption in office last week he made it clear that the state will not be conducive for criminals as well as their sponsors, stressing that his leadership is determined to take the battle to their door steps.

The Commissioner declared that the criminal  have only two options, either they turn up a new leaf or relocate from the state, warning that failure to choose any of the two options will lead them to meet their waterloo.

‘Since my assumption of office, I have made it clear that the State will not be is conducive for criminals as well as their sponsors, because we are determined to take the battle to their door steps. They (the Criminals) have only two options, its either they turn up a new leaf or relocate from this State. Failure to choose any of the two options will lead them to meet their waterloo’, he added
