Ogun state police commissioner embraces community policing

The Ogun State Commissioner of Police Edward Ajogun on Wednesday declared his support for community policing, stressing that it remained the best strategy to use in crime control in the state.

Penpushing reports that, Ajogun  made this known while addressing the officers  of the command during a  lecture session, in conjuction with the Police Community Public Relations Committee(PCRC) held at Area Command located at Oke-Ilewo, Abeokuta.

The police boss emphasized that without discrimination of any religion, tribe, ethics, the unity work of the police with assistance of community policing, there will be no hideout for criminals, nor room for them to operate/

Penpushing further reports that, Ajogun pointed out that, Section 4 of police Act is to protect the life and property of the public, and encouraged residents to also joined in policing their various communities.

The Commissioner advised police officers to be committed to their roles, adding that , knowledge, integrity and intelligence should be their watchwords, stressing that  with their level of intelligence to should distance themselves from bribery and extortion

Penpushing reports that Chairman of Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Abeokuta Metro, Hon Yomi Whyte in his remarks suggested that,, any officers who have served in a station for ten years should be transfer to another station.

The Chairman who disclosed that, the Committee is set to have its administrative building put in place at the Area Command, stated that such postings would afford them(police) to gain further knowledge, and discouraged being stagnant.

Penpushing also reports that, Whyte gave assurance that, the body was readily available to support the police in war against crimes and criminals in the state and environs, and equally encouraged residents to support the move at all time

‘We are ready to ensure that all our communities is well secured,  there is this saying that if you see something, say something and  do something, not until robbers come to you before you take action’, he said

‘For instance if you see someone walking around your community which is not secure say something about it, people will stand up to back you up, and that’s what community policing all about’, the chairman emphasized.
