Ogun state lawmaker, Awoso leads team to consult government over Ibese communal clash

The Ogun State lawmaker representing Ogun West constituency, Hon Adegoke Awoso on Wednesday led five representatives to government in finding lasting solution to the incessant crisis in Ibeseland in Yewa community of the state.

Penpushing reports that, the meeting was held in the office of the Secretary to the Government, and also had in attendance Aina Bamigboye, Fagbire Abayomi, Julius Adebiyi , Quasim Dosumu and Chief Kayode Abatan, the Otunba Ibese land.

The representatives noted that, non availability of park for trailers of Dangote Cement Company was one of the major contributing factors for the crisis, adding that each time the indigenes complained, the Hausa in the community will engage the host community in a fight.

Penpushing further reports that, the indigenes lamented that, the reckless driving of the trailers by the company’s drivers have led to lost of lives of many of their kinsmen, a development which always resulted into crisis between the Hausa and the indigenes when there is complaint from the community.

The representatives at the meeting also appealed to the government on need to compel Dangote company to implement the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)  in regards of employment ratio in the area, stating that contrary to the agreement, the company only offer casual assignments to indigenes.

Penpushing also reports that, the representatives noted that, whenever the company want to offer  non-casual employment, they will tell the indigenes to bring O-level results in lieu of their BSc, HND even Masters certificates but only to discover that Dangote will employ people with BSc and the rest from outside.

They complained bitterly about the way and manners the head of Security Department in Dangote Cement used military personnel to intimidate their people whenever there is crisis, alleging that the same military personnel will be protecting the Hausa.

Penpushing reports that, the aggrieved indigenes cited example of a military officer posted to Ibese, who started shooting sporadically and killed an innocent old man in the front of his house while another person sustained injury and still in the hospital till now.

The representatives enjoined Ogun State Government to intervene as matter of urgency on need  to install a new traditional ruler in the town following the demise of former monarch, years ago, noting that the installation of new monarch will pave way for proper administration and order in the community.

Penpushing further reports that, the representatives posited that, the royal father will  serve as an intermediary between Dangote management and the community for better harmonious relationship.

The lawmaker who led the team in his contribution, advised the Dangote Company on need to make provision for park for its trailers, and should as well adhered strictly to the Memorandum of Understanding(MOU) on considering offering employment for the indigenes.

Penpsuhing also reports that Awoso posited that, the company being the largest cement manufacturer in Africa should be alive to its social responsibilities in their host community, and also submitted that the 5 year interregnum in the royal stool of Ibese will continue to generate problems.

‘We appealed to the State Government to do the needful by installing a new Kabiyesi from the two warring factions before the end of this year. This is not peculiar to only Ibese but also to Imasayi because it is also part of Dangote host community’, he added.

Penpushing reports that, the Secretary to the State Government in response gave assurance that committee will be put in place that will speedily look into the issues, and condemned the act of bias of military personnel deployed to the area.

The scribe said the installation of the new monarchs for Ibese and Imasayi will soon b effected, as soon as due consultations and necessary rites were carried out, adding that  all issues surrounding the emergence will be treated accordingly
