Ogun state government to establish Adire garment institute
The Ogun State Government has disclosed plans to establish garment institute with focus on mass production of Adire fabric, to build on the gains of the present administration’s policy of encouraging the use of Adire.
Penpushing reports that, Commissioner of Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, Kikelomo Longe made this known while presenting the Ministry’s 2021 budget proposal, during the State’s Treasury Board meeting on 2021-2023 Medium Term Expenditure Framework and 2021 Budget, at the Obas Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
The commissioner said the arment Institute would enable entrepreneurs produce more garments and export the product to the United States duty-free under the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA).
Penpushing further reports that Longe stated that the Garment Institute would be in partnership with the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC), create more job opportunities for unemployed youths, earn foreign exchange for rapid economic growth in the State.
The commissioner added that as part of the drive to create enabling environment and improve the Ease of Doing Business in the State, the Ministry also intends to upgrade the Technology Incubation Centre at Onijanganjangan, as well as establish a Cosmetics, Soaps and Detergent Common Facility, to meet latest technological advancement, which would enhance small businesses share facilities and get certifications more easily
Penpushing also reports that, she added that through Public Private Partnership, the Ministry would ensure the full take-off of the cashew nut processing machine donated to the Cashew Production Association in Imasayi by Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC)
The Commissioner added that demolished portions of the State Trade Fair Complex in Abeokuta, would also be reconstructed to ensure the Gateway International Trade Fair is held at the venue in 2021, to promote trade and investment opportunities.
Penpushing reports that Longe said the Ministry is proposing the sum of N731,932,191.10 representing 62.80 percent for capital expenditure and N433, 538,374.80 as 37.20 percent for recurrent expenditure, while aiming to generate N1, 225, 000, 000.
The ministry boss on the Ministry’s revenue generation target as at October, 2020, noted that 89.3 percent had been achieved, expressing optimism that the Ministry would achieve its full target before the end of the year.
