Ogun State Government shut 12 companies for environment infractions

The Ogun State government has sealed twelve companies in Ogijo, Sagamu Local Government, for pollution and other environment infractions, a measure taken  to provide hazardous free environment for its populace, .

Penpushing reports that, Commissioner for Environment, Abiodun Abudu-Balogun, who ordered the sealing of the companies, which were mostly metal smelting companies, said they were shut after several warning and would remain closed until they showed government their roadmap to ending pollution.

The Commissioner said no government would fold its arms and watch companies pollute the environment, considering its effects on the populace, reiterating this administration’s resolve to clampdown on erring companies, no matter their sizes and employment opportunities to the people.

Penpushing further reports that, therefore urged prospective and existing companies in the State to make environmental safety their watch word, as the Dapo Abiodun led administration has zero tolerance for pollution and other environment infractions

However, a landlord in Ogijo, Mubasiru Adetunji commended the State government for the steps, which he noted should be extended to all parts of the State, saying, the action would safe residents from ‘’thick-smoky and polluted environment’’.

Penpushing also reports that,in another development the State Government has said, the proactive measures put in place to contain and prevent the spread of the dreadful Coronavirus in the State, was yielding positive results.

The State Commissioner for Health, Dr  Tomi Coker, who made this known while speaking with journalists, on the second confirmed case of the virus said, “the case was confirmed from one of the 40 people who had contact with the first Italian index and had earlier been quarantined after testing their blood samples.

‘If we had not been proactive to have tracked down those who had contact with the first Italian index, he would have been spreading it everywhere, but for measures being put in place. Even the person identified, up until now has not developed any symptoms’’.

The Commissioner expressed optimism that the remaining 39 people, who have spent 13 days, out of 14 days meant for the quarantine period would soon be declared free of the virus, and called on residents of the State to be calm and not panic, assuring that ‘’Ogun State Government is not leaving any stone unturned towards containing the virus’’.

Penpushing reports that, she enjoined all to continue to maintain simple personal hygiene by engaging in regular hand washing with soap and flowing water, as well as maintain proper respiratory hygiene by sneezing or coughing into the elbow and make use of tissue papers which must be properly disposed after use.
