Ogun state government seals tyre recycling company over environmental infraction
The Ogun State Government has during an enforcement tour sealed a tyre recycling company, Gande Limited, Siun, located in Obafemi -Owode local government area of the state over environmental infraction.
Penpushing reports that the Senior Special Adviser to the Ogun State Governor on Environment, Hon. Farouk Akintunde said the enforcement tour was carried out by the Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency (OGEPA).
The Senior Special Adviser who gave the order said the company was found culpable of operating without adhering to environmental regulations, thereby endangering the lives of people, urging companies to obey environmental laws of the state.
‘Following a tip-off from the residents of the community that the company emits carbon-monoxide which is hazardous to health, prompted immediate action by the agency to embark on the tour and shut down the company”, he stated
‘Lives of your host community should be a major priority to you; desist from practices that can be injurious to people’s health and or affect businesses, as the present administration will not take it easy with any environmental law defaulter”, Akintunde added.
Penpushing further reports that Director, Special Duty and Climate Change, Mr. Tunji Egbemuyiwa, while speaking described the atmosphere of the company as being harmful to the health of the workers and the community,
The Director, Special Duty and Climate Change, however, advised residents to henceforth and always report any illegal or unsafe facility within their localities to the appropriate quarters to avert environmental disaster.
