Ogun state government inaugurates Amotekun
The Ogun State Government has inaugurated the South-West Joint Security Outfit known as Amotekun with the provision of security vehicles, motorcycles and communication devices for qualitative operations
Penpushing reports that, Governor, Dapo Abiodun while inaugurating the outfit at the parade ground of Governor’s office at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, said the establishment of the security outfit is part of a holistic approach determined to tackle the rising wave of insecurity in the region, ‘a situation we found very alien to us’
The Governor explained that the operatives of the Amotekun security outfit have been carefully chosen and trained, adding that government also provided other necessary logistics, technical backstopping and political will for an effective take-off and efficient operation..
‘Let me state, here, that the operatives of the Amotekun security outfit have been carefully chosen and trained. And, we are inaugurating and providing the outfit with take-off security vehicles, motorcycles and communication devices’,he.
‘We are also providing other necessary logistics, technical backstopping and political will for an effective take-off and efficient operation. The provision of equipment and recruitment of personnel will be a continuous exercise’, Abiodun added.
Penpushing further reports that, the Governor called on the officials to exhibit superlative performance of duties and they must diligently add value to strengthen the security of lives and property in Ogun State, stressing that in doing this, the operatives are also expected to carry out their duties within the ambit of the provisions of the law establishing the outfit
‘You are also subject to the law, not above the law. Let the rule of law be your watchword and ensure that you respect the rights of citizens and residents of the State. Let me be clear – your role is primarily to prevent crime’.
‘You are to do this through systematic intelligence gathering and collaboration with other law enforcement agencies, especially the Security Network Agencies of other States, Nigeria Police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NAPTIP, NDLEA, Customs, Immigration, DSS and others’, he stated.
Penpushing also reports that, he called on residents not to see the operatives as spirits, rather they should provide information for them and also cooperate and collaborate with them in the interest of adequate security
‘I call on you all, our dear people, to support and cooperate with the operatives of the Amotekun to strengthen the security machinery in Ogun State. In the same vein, I call on other security agencies to also cooperate and collaborate with the Amotekun to form a synergy of purpose towards ensuring stronger security of lives and property in our dear State’, Abiodun said.
