Ogun state government begins consultation for bus mass transit take off, says commissioner

The Ogun State Government has disclosed that consultations are at advanced stage with stakeholders on the take- off of the State Bus Mass Transit Pilot Scheme, as dedicated bus stops for the buses are under construction.

Penpushing reports that, Commissioner for Transportation, Engr. Gbenga Dairo  made this known while defending the Ministry’s budget proposal for the year 2022 at the Ogun State House of Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

“We are at the advanced stage with all stakeholders involved in the Bus Mass Transit Scheme and want to inform the House that construction of bus stops and lay bys have already began, which will still be constructed in other parts of the State’, he said.

Penpushing further reports that, Dairo said, branding of the buses is in top gear and that people of Abeokuta will start enjoying the facilities soon, before extending it to other parts of the State.

The Commissioner while highlighting the expectations of the Ministry on the proposed budget, said the Ministry would be responsible for traffic, regulatory, and warning signs that would be drawn on the newly constructed roads across the State, among which are Ijebu-Epe road and Abeokuta-Sagamu Interchange.

Penpushing also reports that, Dairo explained that the state is working closely with Lagos State to put in place railway stations which would be implemented in phases and take-off from Marina to Alagbado extending to Ijoko and Ifo.

The commissioner added that,the intention of both states is to make use of the current tracks that was recently constructed by Nigeria Railway Corporation(NRC) between Lagos and Ibadan, and promised that the Ministry, which was created early last year would improve on its revenue generation in the coming year.
