Ogun state government absorbs 498 teachers into public service
The Ogun State Government has distributed letter of permanent employment to 498 successful applicants under the Ogun State Teaching Experience and Acquisition Channel (OgunTEACh) programme.
Penpushing reports that Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, who distributed the letter said the step was to fill existing vacancies in schools across the state, in order to promote effective and productive teaching and learning activities.
The Commissioner while recalling that 1000 Interns on the first batch list got their letters in December, 2023 pointed out that the newly recruited teachers had served diligently and meritoriously during a two-year probation period and gathered much experience to make them outstanding teachers, enjoining them to continue to be hard working and put in their best in the service of the state.
Penpushing further reports that Arigbabu disclosed that 266 Interns were absorbed into public secondary schools through the Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), 187 injected into public primary education under the State Universal Basic Education (SUBEB), while 45 were employed into the five Government Science and Technical Colleges.
’Due to the fact that Ogun is known for standard, the cut-off points for the Interns into OgunTEACh is pecked at 30 out of 50 marks, with strict consideration on the subject advertised, as anything less than that does not merit the standard required’’, he said.
Penpushing also reports that in their remarks, the Chairmen, Trade Union Congress (TUC), Comrade Akeem Lasisi, his counterparts in Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Comrade Noah Sewakanu, represented by his dDeputy, Comrade Olufemi Okulalu and Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS), Comrade Dr. Oluwaseun Agbesanwa, appreciated government for making the appointment transparent and merit-based, urging the beneficiaries to discharge their duties efficiently.
Meanwhile, appreciating the Governor on behalf of other beneficiaries, Mr. Solomon Taiwo, Mr. Yusuf Muritala, Mrs. Mujidat Ogunyombo, Mrs. Adenike Abass, from Yewa, Egba, Remo and Ijebu regions respectively, commended the present administration for keeping to its promise, affirming their commitment to the teaching profession.
