OGUN GOVERNMENT HOSPITAL OPERATES WITHOUT AMBULANCE FOR TEN YEARS
The disused ambulance has now become abode for reptiles while it is also on record that, the immediate past administration of former Governor Ibikunle Amosun’s promise to purchase a new ambulance for the hospital remained a dream throughout his 8 years in office.
Penpushing recalled that, the then Commissioner of Health, Dr Babatunde Ipaye on a number of times during press conferences assured the people of Government determination to provide a replacement for the ramshackle ambulance, but the promises did not see the light of the day, till the end of the two term rule of Amosun administration.
However, in a related development, despite the predicament of the hospital in providing effective ambulance, the incumbent Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun is yet to give attention to the plight of the hospital, and this is traced to his inability to appoint commissioners six months into his government.
Penpushing further reports that, leadership of the State Hospitals Management, being civil servants are constrained in speaking out over the ugly development when approached for reactions.
The hospital is under the supervision of the Ogun State Hospitals Management Board under Edict No. 6 of 1978 promulgated by the then Military Government , with a primary objective of the Board to provide effective, qualitative and quantitative health care services to the people of the State.
Penpushing also reports the roles of the Board to include advising the Government through the Commissioner over such matters connected with medical or health services in the State, as well as treats all personnel matters such as study courses, in-service training, appointments, confirmation, promotions and discipline of employees.
The Board considers and collates the annual estimate and budget proposals for the hospitals and the headquarters, and also recommends ways, means of increasing the revenue and recommend for approval of the commissioner, the charges or fees payable for services provided by or on behalf of the Board.
Penpushing further reports that, the Board carries out any other functions or general directives consistent with Government policy in all matters relating to medical or health services.
