United Nations condemns killing of aid workers by bokoharam

The United Nations (UN) Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres  has condemned the killing, on 22 July, of five civilians, including three aid workers from ACTED, the International Rescue Committee (IRC), and Action Against Hunger (ACF), by an armed group in Northern Borno State of Nigeria.

Penpushing reports that, the condemnation over the act was contained in a statement issued by Stephane Dujarric, spokesman for the Secretary-General of the world body in Nigeria expressing   deepest condolences to the families of the victims and to the country.

The Secretary-General reiterated  that attacks by a party to an armed conflict that are directed against civilians, including those who are aid workers, violate international humanitarian law. International human rights law and international humanitarian law.

Penpsuhing further reports that, the Secretary General of United Nations(UN) emphasized in the statement that human rights law must be fully respected, including the obligation to protect civilians.
