OBASANJO MOURNS AYIDA, FORMER SECRETARY TO MILITARY GOVERNMENT
“Mr. Ayida was a hardworking and committed member of my Administration as the then Head of the Military Government, who put in his best during his lifetime to ensure that our policies were appreciated and understood by the general populace. His amiable disposition and national outlook were qualities which served him well on the job’,he said.
“Throughout the late Mr. Ayida’s career, he was acknowledged as a disciplined, detribalised, transparent and humane public officer with an enviable track record. He was highly respected by his peers and revered by his subordinates for his sound knowledge of the Public Service and wealth of experience in establishment matters’, Obasanjo emphasised.
‘In his capacity as Secretary to the Federal Military Government and Head of Service, he left behind an impeccable record of incorruptible leadership, a legacy of forthrightness, thoroughness and unwavering commitment to public good’,the former President stated.
“Late Mr. Ayida maintained a very low profile after leaving office in spite of his outstanding achievements as a Public Officer. He opted to serve, among others, on the Board of Berger Paints and Managing Partner at International Business Development Consultants Ltd and Managing Partner at Veil Woodward Associates, posts he held till his death. He was known to have brought his wealth of experience as a top Public Officer to bear on the activities of all of these organisations’.
“The death of Mr. Ayida is, indeed, a national loss. The memories of his meritorious service to our fatherland will remain evergreen in our hearts. My family and I, therefore, join his family, his colleagues, friends and, indeed, the entire public service that he served with distinction for over three decades, in mourning his transition to eternity.
“We wish to express our heartfelt sympathy to the family and pray that the good Lord will console and enable them all to face the challenges of life that lie ahead and grant them the grace to bear the loss with fortitude. May his soul rest in perfect peace. Amen,” the statement said.
