Pressure group commends commissioner on new educational policy in ogun state

The United Premier Movement (UPM), a Non-Governmental Organisation(NGO) has commended the Ogun State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof Abayomi Arigbabu, for his recent decisive actions and reforms announced for the 2025/2026 academic session.

Penpushing reports that the Convener of the movement Hon. (Chief) Olalekan Shoyinka gave the commendation in a statement made available to journalists in Abeokuta, adding that government’s new six-year textbook policy and the ban on extravagant graduation ceremonies are not only timely but also a clear demonstration of responsive and people-centered leadership

‘As a concerned parent, stakeholder, and advocate for the advancement of quality education in Ogun State, I wish to publicly commend and appreciate the Honourable Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Professor Abayomi Arigbabu, for his recent decisive actions and reforms announced for the 2025/2026 academic session’, Shoyinka wrote.

Penpushing further reports that the movement pointed out that the development directly addresses long-standing concerns of parents, teachers, and education advocates who have, for years, decried the unnecessary financial pressure placed on families by frequent textbook changes and the growing culture of excessive spending on non-essential graduation events.

‘The Ogun State Government’s new six-year textbook policy and the ban on extravagant graduation ceremonies are not only timely but also a clear demonstration of responsive and people-centered leadership’, the statement reads.

‘These measures directly address long-standing concerns of parents, teachers, and education advocates who have, for years, decried the unnecessary financial pressure placed on families by frequent textbook changes and the growing culture of excessive spending on non-essential graduation events’, it added.

‘Professor Arigbabu’s decision shows that he is not only attuned to the voices of stakeholders but also committed to policies that place learners’ interests and family welfare above commercial or superficial considerations’.

‘His approach reflects uncommon wisdom and foresight—proving that quality education is anchored on effective teaching and resourcefulness, not on constant, profit-driven textbook revisions or ostentatious ceremonies.

Penpushing also reports that Shoyinka popularly called Ainla Egba pointed out that the bold step has further cements the commissioner’s reputation as a thorough professional and shining light among his peers in Prince Dapo Abiodun’s administration.

‘His tenure has consistently brought innovation, moderation, and integrity to the state’s education sector, leaving indelible marks that will remain reference points for years to come’, he stated.

‘On behalf of many Ogun State parents and education stakeholders who share this sentiment, I extend heartfelt appreciation to the Commissioner for championing reforms that ease the financial burden on families, uphold the dignity of education, and safeguard the true essence of learning’, he wrote.

‘May Professor Arigbabu’s example inspire other public officials to act with the same courage, professionalism, and sensitivity to the needs of the people they serve’, Shoyinka emphasised.
