The proposal for the anniversary Celebration/Reunion also stated that series of events will run for three days (proposed for September/October 2018 to coincide with the 55th Anniversary of the institution), adding that the suggested activities will be in three stages: pre-event, event, sustenance
Akintunde explained that the pre-event upon approval of proposal my members will commence sensitisation of Alumni and other stakeholders towards their support, firm up the budget, stakeholders’ engagements, sponsorship drive, visits to corporate organizations (involve Alumni in positions of influence), sale of advert space for Anniversary Lecture brochure, publicity, media interaction session by Alumni leadership, explore discussion programmes on TV and radio, feature articles and interviews in the print media, online media reports, liaison with NIJ leadership, production of anniversary Lecture brochure
The proposal also has it that, there would be a book launch: The NIJ You Never Know’, stating that the 3-day celebration will featured, homecoming at the school premises commences, career day by Alumni, commissioning of alumni projects, reunion with founding fathers and others (Awards & recognitions), sports and other recreation at the school
Similarly, there will be anniversary Lecture (3-member panel to lead discussion), launch of the NIJ Alumni Website and social media platforms, Social Night, while the proposed anniversary lecture is Deepening Democracy: The Role of Journalism, Journalism Ethics in the Era of Social Media. The proposed venue is Sheraton Hotel, Lagos
