Nigerian workers suspend strike for one week

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) have announced the suspension of their industrial action for one week, following a joint extraordinary national executive council meeting of the unions held in Abuja, Federal Capital Territory (FCT)

Penpushing reports that President of Trade Union Congress (TUC), Festus Osifo made this known on Tuesday, explaining that the two unions has approved to relax the industrial action for one week with immediate effect.

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) it is recalled ordered members to embark on indefinite strike which started on Monday and paralysed business activities across the country.

Penpushing further reports that this followed failure of the government to meet their demand for a minimum wage of N494,000, while the Nigerian government, however, proposed N60,000 as minimum wage

Meanwhile, as at the time of filing this report both the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) are expected to provide further details in a communique to be issued later
