Nigerian Women Journalists task police on re-arrest serial killer, Sunday Shodipe

The Nigerian Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ),  has called for the re-arrest of the Akinyele’s serial killer, Sunday Shodipe who was recently declared wanted by the Police  after he escaped from detention

Penpushing reports that the National President of the association,  Ifeyinwa Omowole, made the call  at a 2-day workshop on ‘Safe motherhood’, organised by Oyo State Chapter of the body held at the Press center, Iyaganku, Ibadan.

The President noted that women journalists frowned at the incident, adding that the Inspector General of Police, Commissioner of Police and the Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde must do something urgently to the situation.

‘NAWOJ at the National and State levels are calling on the Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde and relevant stakeholders to take necessary actions before the incident degenerate and get out of hands. Sunday Shodipe should as a matter of urgency be apprehended in order to give residents of the state rest of mind, and make to face the wrath of law’, she emphasised.

Penpushing further reports that the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Inclusion in Oyo State, Alhaja Faosat Sanni, in her remarks, while speaking on the topic noted that her ministry believes in safe motherhood so as to ensure that every woman has access to good health care system across Oyo State

The Commissioner pointed out that Safe motherhood starts from the day when a woman gets pregnancy, after giving birth, and while nurturing the child, noting  that there is a need to take primary healthcare very important, and female journalists must always advocate for safe motherhood

“Governor Makinde has put a lot of efforts in place to ensure safe motherhood, speeding day care center is also been worked on, there is a bill currently been sponsored at the Oyo State House of Assembly to increase the number of maternity leave of women from four months to six months.

“Women should be giving equity and chance to excel, I was appointed as the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Inclusion without lobbying or fear of favor’, the commissioner explained

Penpushing also reports that the Chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalists(NUJ) in Oyo State, Ademola Babalola pointed out that women are nation builders and men should always assist in supporting their potentials, saying that the workshop is timely,assuring that journalists are ready to  give necessary support to the association.
