Nigerian Veteran broadcaster Tomori Oluwunmi is dead
The renowned Nigerian veteran broadcaster Dr Tomori Oluwunmi has been reported dead in Abeokuta, Ogun State Capital following a sudden ailment, an ugly development which caught many people and his fans unaware, as the news filtered on Tuesday
Penpushing reports that Oluwunmi’s son confirmed the sad news when contacted on phone, adding that his father just complained of chest pain, which led to the sudden death, adding that it was suspected that he had heart attack.
The Executive Secretary of Broadcasting Organisation of Nigeria (BON), Dr Yemisi Bamgbose who is the mentor of the late broadcaster could not hold back tears, while also confirming the sad incident, saying the news got to him with shock.
‘We lost Tomori Oluwunmi this morning, and I could not believe my ears when I was told this morning. This is sad and shocking to me, and a big blow and loss to the broadcasting media industry’, Bamgbose said in tears
Penpushing further reports that, the late broadcaster was a household name in the broadcasting industry and made wave across the globe in a known chit-chat programme of the Ogun State Television (OGTV), where he was part of the team who popularized the programme through rib-cracking jokes on airwaves.
The deceased was also a part-time and pioneer cerebral lecturer at the College of Broadcasting, Crescent University, Abeokuta, and adjudged by the students as one of the major pillar of the college, with his teaching skills
‘With heavy hearts but with total submission to the will of God Almighty, we announce the sudden demise of Dr Tomori Oluwunmi which occurred very early today 06/06, 2023’, the family wrote in a statement
Penpushing also reports that, the death of Oluwunmi almost turned Ogun State Television (OGTV), as well as Federal College of Education (FCE), Abeokuta, where he was once a staff to permanent silence, when the news hit airwave
Meanwhile, sources said burial arrangements stated that there will be a Christian wake on Thursday, June 15, 2023, while the funeral service has been scheduled to hold at St Peter Cathedral Church, Ake, Abeokuta, on Friday June 16, 2023
