Nigerian Students demand for substantive rector for Moshood Abiola Polytechnic
The Ogun State Joint Campus Committee (JCC) of National Association of Nigerian Students(NANS) on Sunday called on Governor Dapo Abiodun on the urgent need to appoint a substantive Rector for the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta.
Penpushing reports that, the Committee Chairman, Comrade Damilola Kehinde made the request at a press conference held at Iwe-Iroyin Press Centre, in Abeokuta, the state capital, stressing that this became imperative
The students added that, their call was also hinged on need to draw the Governor’s attention to some shortcomings in the sector, arguing that if unattended to, may give set back to the academic activities in the institution.
Penpushing further reports that, the association lamented that, the polytechnic in the last two years has no substantive Rector, pointing out that screening committee was set up over one year ago for prospective candidates for the position without no any meaningful update.
“Chief among these shortcomings is the continuous and intentional negligence in constituting the Governing Council for Higher Institutions in the state. This is worrisome to say the least’, the students stated.
“It is important to note that, the notable feats, one of which is restoring academic activities back to MAPOLY after a long stalemate, among others achieved by your administration when you assumed office in 2019 are almost eroded by the non-appointment of a substantive Rector for the institution’, they argued.
“Also, the lack of a substantive Rector in MAPOLY has slowed down the operation of the institution and this is setting the school backward. We urge you to consider the most experienced, qualified and capable candidate among the screened candidates as the substantive Rector of MAPOLY”, Damilola said
