Nigerian Senator, Folarin insists on youths empowerment in tackling Nigeria insecurity

A Nigerian Senator representing Oyo State Central Senatorial District at the National Assembly, Senator Teslim Folarin  has insisted that Nigerian youths must be empowered so as to tackle some challenges currently facing the nation.

Penpushing reports that Folarin while speaking on the theme,’ Governance and Security in Nigeria’ at the 2021 Alumni lecture of the University of Ibadan  also advocated for adequate budgeting for security agencies in tackling insecurity across the nation.

The lawmaker stated that with the presence of about 130,000 personnel in Nigerian Army, and 371,000 Police personnel, as well as 18,000 and 15,000 members of the Navy and Air Force in Nigeria respectively, security of lives and property of Nigerians deserve more budgeting.

.The chairman, Senate Committee on Local Content maintained that there will be absence of good governance and sustainable development without security, adding that there is need to decentralise Nigerian security architecture as part of structure of true federalism which Nigeria is by constitution.

Penpushing also reports that, the federal lawmaker emphasised   that under a true federalism state, manners of budgeting, control and crucial operation of governance will be manageable along zonal, regional, and state level.

“Statistics of insecurity in Nigeria is alarming, we are all witnessing negative effect of insecurity in the land, incident and cases of kidnapping, armed robbery, violence and other act of insurrection. There are more out of school children than ever before’, he stated

‘There are more death from terrorist attacks and organised crimes than previous years, there are cases of avoidable clashes of herders and farmers and there are agitations for political self determination within the country”, he added

“Governance is about creating enabling environment, we have the duty to create and secure the best of opportunities for the youth in order to make difference between challenges we have now and the brighter future”.

Penpushing  reports that it is recalled that many Nigerians have asked the federal government to empower the youths and make education affordable for every Nigerians in tackling insecurity in the country, however, Folarin equally pointed out that  there will be peace, stability and development in Nigeria if security of the people is put at the center of governance.
