Nigerian Railway Corporation to begin e-ticketing, says Minister
The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) will from Wednesday commence e-ticketing for passengers, as it flagged off the new introduction for the Lagos-Ibadan and Itakpe–Warri routes on Monday.
Penpushing reports that the Minister of Transportation, Said Alkali made this known on Monday at the flag-off the e-ticketing held in Abuja, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) explaining that the e-ticketing system will direct ticket sales revenue to the government’s funds.
The Minister emphasized that the e-ticketing platform would significantly reduce the potential for corruption and revenue leakage, and will equally help to ensure the security of passengers and avoid racketeering
‘It will also help to ensure the security of our passengers and avoid racketeering. It is the desire of this administration to have zero tolerance for corruption. All these are aimed to benefit our citizens,” he added.
Penpushing further reports that the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Magdalene Ajani, in his contribution said the Nigerian Government had really deepened efforts to ensure the dream of having an e-ticketing platform come to reality.
The Permanent Secretary explained that electronic ticketing for the standard gauge would comfortably curb racketeering that is capable of negatively affecting the economy, and his own remarks the Managing Director, Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), Fidet Okhiria said the e-ticketing system would improve the integrity of operations in the sector.
Penpushing also reports that Okhiria expressed optimism that the e-ticketing platform would increase revenue generation for the Nigerian Government, adding that the authorities had concessioned the Warri-Itakpe and Lagos–Ibadan routes.
The Managing Director disclosed the identities of the private firm as “Ticketing Solutions Limited” and “Global Software and Digital Solution”, expected to work effectively and efficiently to fulfil mandates to operate the system which will run for 10 years respectively
