
Nigerian Railway Corporation Officials assault university lecturer at train station
A lecturer at the University of Ibadan, Dr. Mikail Abdussalam has been allegedly assaulted by officials of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) at Obafemi Awolowo Train Station in Moniya, Ibadan in Oyo State.
Penpushing reports that the incident was said to have occurred on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, when Abdussalam was driving his sister to the station to assist her with boarding a train to Lagos.
The sources added that, a confrontation was reported to have occurred which escalated and resulted in the lecturer allegedly beaten up by the corporation officials and equally, inflicting injuries, and reportedly threatened his life.

Penpushing further reports that the management of the corporation has acknowledged media reports of the alleged assault which was vehemently condemned in a statement
The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), Dr. Kayode Opeifa, in a statement on Monday, said the authorities viewed the incident with serious concern
“The corporation views the incident with serious concern and wishes to state clearly that harassment, intimidation, or any form of misconduct towards passengers or members of the public is unacceptable’, he wrote.
“This is not in line with the values and operational standards of the Nigerian Railway Corporation. Management has, therefore, ordered an immediate investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident’, Opeifa said.
Penpushing also reports that the statement emphasised that any personnel found to have acted contrary to the corporation’s professional and public service code of conduct would be subjected to appropriate disciplinary measures in accordance with established regulations and laws.
“The Nigerian Railway Corporation sincerely regrets the unfortunate incident and extends its apologies to the lecturer for the distress caused. The corporation remains committed to ensuring that all passengers and visitors at its stations are treated with dignity, respect, and professionalism at all times’, he stated.
“The NRC assures the public that necessary steps are being taken to reinforce adherence to customer service standards across all its facilities to prevent a recurrence of such incident’, Opeifa added.
