Nigerian lawmaker, Afolabi Afuape empowers Abeokuta South local government constituents with cash, business tools

A member of the House of Representatives representing Abeokuta South Federal Constituency, at the national assembly Hon. Afolabi Afuape on Tuesday empowered 854 entrepreneurs with tools aimed to boost their businesses.

Penpushing reports that at the ceremony held at Ake Palace in Abeokuta had in attendance hundreds of beneficiaries who were also handed over cash between N50,000 and N100, 000 to support them.

The equipment handed over to the beneficiaries from wards in Abeokuta South local government include fridges, motorcycles, sewing machines, hair dryers, grinding machines, tricycles, medical kits and school bags among others

Penpushing further reports that Afuape had earlier engaged a stakeholders’ meeting at the Centenary Hall located in Ake, Abeokuta, where he highlighted number of projects, he had facilitated to the local government which include education, security, power, and youth empowerment.

The federal lawmaker speaking at the well-attended ceremony by chieftains of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), which was the second edition explained that the gesture was part of his mission to stimulate economic growth and reduce unemployment in the constituency.

Penpushing also reports that he pointed out the relevance and importance of his legislative contributions, adding that as part of his contributions he has sponsored series of bills aimed at improving national governance and local development.

The lawmaker pointed out some of the bills as include National Farm Settlements Agency Bill, aimed at revitalizing the agricultural sector, as well as Police Act Amendment Bill, which seeks to improve policing in Nigeria, National Council for Arts and Culture Amendment Bill and National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) Amendment Bill.

Penpushing reports that he added that he equally initiated number of motions which include the provision of stable electricity for consumers and the promotion of traditional fabric industries like Adire and Kampala, as part of his cultural advocacy.

The notable politician assured of his commitment to his constituency which he said extends beyond legislation and to concrete community interventions, stressing that in the same vein he has facilitated several infrastructural projects.

Penpushing further reports that some of the projects facilitated by Afuape are construction of classrooms at St. John’s High School, Kuto, Methodist Primary School, Ogbe, as well as ongoing renovations at Ijaye Community Primary School, Gbangba, Abeokuta.

The former Commissioner in Ogun State explained that these efforts are aimed at enhancing the learning environment for students and supporting the educational development of the constituency, adding that in addition he has installed solar-powered street lights in strategic locations in the local government area.

Penpushing also reports that he is equally conscious of job creation, and has facilitated employment opportunities for constituents within various government agencies and organizations.

The federal legislator is equally conscious of need to support the younger generation in acquiring marketable skills that will empower them to create their own businesses, explaining that he has provided revolving loans to traders and artisans in partnership with community-based associations.

Penpushing reports that the beneficiaries include Panseke Traders Association and Itoko-Keesi-Emere Women’s Group. Afuape as well as as appointments of 50 people had been as Legislative Aides.

The lawmaker assured the constituents that he would explore all avenues to initiate legislative actions that will always be of beneficiary and equally promised to work towards the activation of farm settlements.

Penpushing further reports that Afuape who was accorded a warming reception on arrival at the events venue reassured his constituents of his unwavering dedication to their welfare at all time, and called for constructive criticism to help refine his efforts moving forward.

The party leaders who spoke at the event lauded Afuape’s genuine efforts in bringing smiles to faces of his people in the local government and also commended him for not turning an ingrate after getting to office.

Penpushing also reports that the stakeholder called on him to spearhead and work towards laws that would combat the rising drug abuse problem, particularly among the youths in the country.

The stakeholders had earlier, encouraged Afuape for the activation of farm settlements within the constituency to help bolster agricultural production and improve the livelihoods of local farmers.
