Nigerian lawmaker Afolabi Afuape returns to class as ‘secondary school teacher’, hosts 4th edition of free summer coaching

‎The federal lawmaker representing Abeokuta South Federal Constituency, at the national assembly Hon Afolabi Afuape on Tuesday returned to classroom as a teacher where he engaged students during summer coaching classes.

Penpushing reports that the summer coaching which was the 4th edition of his constituency education support initiative project was held at Rev. Kuti Memorial Grammar School, Isabo, Abeokuta, Ogun State Capital.

The lawmaker who was a former Commissioner in Ogun State personally tutored students from various secondary schools across the constituency on some subjects, stressing the importance of education for the youths

Penpushing further reports that Afuape was able to display his teaching skills having been a former lecturer at the Moshood Abiola Polytecnich, (MAPOLY) Abeokuta, before venturing into politics

The lawmaker is known to have consistently sponsored number of indigent students to ease the financial burden of their parents while giving students access to quality learning, and equally tutored the students on international trade.

Penpushing also reports that Afuape while speaking with the students after the classroom work stressed the value of hard work, pointing out that, there’s no escape route to success in life than hard work.

The renowned politician and chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) emphasized the importance of international trade to the growth of Nigeria’s economy and encouraged the learners to see education as a tool for national development.

Penpushing reports that Afuape, however, assured that the initiative will be sustained and further expanded to reach more students in subsequent years, stressing that his desire is for the students to be academically sound

The lawmaker disclosed that the full coaching classes has been scheduled to run till September 5, 2025, across two centres – Rev. Kuti Memorial Grammar School, Isabo, and St. Peter’s Primary School, Ake, Abeokuta. And covers core and elective subjects including English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Literature-in-English, Economics, Government, Commerce, and Financial Accounting.

Penpushing further reports that one of the students, Akinta Riti Jason, an SS3 commercial student of Abeokuta Grammar School, expressed appreciation for the opportunity, noting that the experience was motivational

“It is a very wonderful programme, because some parents may not be able to afford private lessons. For instance, my friends pay as much as N5,000 for a month, and that may even be for just one subject’, he said.

‘But here, we are learning many subjects free of charge. I learned new topics which I hadn’t come across before. I want to say thank you to our Honourable Afolabi Afuape for these great opportunities’, Jason added
