Nigerian Journalists national leadership inaugurates 9-man planning committee for union’s 70th anniversary

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has inaugurated 9-man committee to be headed by the Deputy National President, Dr Abimbola Oyetunde to oversee the planning of the 70 years anniversary celebration of the Union.

Penpushing reports that a statement by the National Secretary of the union, Achike Chude made available to journalists said the National President of the union Comrade Alhasan Yahya inaugurated the committee on Saturday.

The other committee members include Comrade Abdulkareem Haruna Borno (Secretary), Comrade Donald Dedan, Comrade Okechukwu Nwanguma, Comrade Ademola Babalola, Comrade Abdulai Sulaiman, Comrade Amos Etuk, Comrade Wale Olanrewaju and Comrade Grace Ike

Penpushing further reports that the President explained that the highpoints of the celebration would be a showcase of the growth and dynamism, challenges and successes of the union from inception till date.

The President added that it would be people-centric and concentrate on all those in the various leadership and membership structures of the union that contributed to making her what she is today.

Penpushing also reports that the statement said the selection of the committee members headed by Oyetunde was an indication that the President was ready to pull out all the stops to ensure the fulfillment of his promise that the celebration would be one that would not be forgotten in a hurry.

The head of the committee in her remarks said she was not fazed by the enormity of the mandate before her and her committee, however, welcomed the responsibility with a sense of duty and purpose.

Penpushing reports that the statement stated that Oyetunde pointed out that the committee had a two-month window to accomplish the task and urged members to brace up for the work ahead.

‘If the body languages of the committee members and their responses were indicators of the outcome of the work of the committee, then we can say with all confidence that the Dr Abimbola led committee will fulfill its mandate bounteously’, the statement reads.
