Nigerian journalists bestow award on Editorial Board Chairman, Penpushing Media, Funke Fadugba
The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Lagos State Council has celebrated the Chairman Editorial Board of Penpushing Media, Deaconess Olufunke Fadugba with an award for her immense contributions to journalism development.
Penpushing reports that, the ceremony which was part of the union press week activities was held at Oranmiyan Hall of Airport Hotel Ikeja, Lagos with over 250 guests in attendance which include National President of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Chris Isiguzo.
The awardee ,was two term Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists(NUJ),Lagos State Council,, two time member of the Nigeria Union of Journalists National Executive Council, former member of the Nigerian Institute of Journalism Almuni Association and member of Nigerian Institute of Journalism Governing Council.
Penpushing further reports that, she was former Executive Director, Media,Ethics Organisation, member National Association of Women Journalists, member Association of Professional Counselors of Nigeria(APCON), and a certified Teacher by the Teachers Registration Council.
The awardee attended Nigeria Institute of Journalism where she secured a Diploma in Journalism in 1986,equally studied at Babcock University, Ilisan where she bagged B.Ed in Educational Planning and Administration and Master’s Degree in Education(M.Ed) with a bias for counseling Psychology in 2021
Penpushing also reports that, Fadugba started her career at Radio Lagos/Eko FM in 1980 through to 1998 during the period she produced UNICEF sponsored instructional radio series on maternal health and family planning in collaboration with the Lagos State Ministry of Health, Local Governments and Health centers across the state.
The veteran journalist, thereafter joined the Daar Communications FM in 1999 as General Manger, News and Radio Services and retired, but not tired, was again at the Impact Television in 2018 and currently, Chairman, Editorial Board, Penpushing Media
Penpushing reports that, Fadugba is a proprietress of FAD Maestro International School located in Obafemi-Owode Local Government area of Ogun state, which started operations in 2017, and also established the first Journalists Estate in Africa located in Arepo,Obafemi-Owode Local Government of Ogun State.
The awardee who is married to an Ijesa and blessed with children, was sometime adjudged the best Nigeria Union of Journalists Chairman in 2005 by Nigeria Union of Journalists(NUJ),Zone B, comprising Lagos, Ogun,Oyo,Ekiti,Osun and Ondo States.
Penpushing further reports that, Fadugba had equally bagged the award of Excellence, Nigeria Union of Journalists, Oyo State Council, and that of the Kwara State Council in 2004, and enjoys travelling, reading relevant and professional books, listening to inspirational and gospel music and engaging in humanitarian/public service at her leisure
The Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ),Lagos State Council, Adeleye Ajayi in his welcome speech affirmed that the award was on merit, with a call on Fadugba and other awardees, as well as other special guests to give support to the union at all time
“However, I will like to seek the support of some awardees and special guests of honour here present to assist us towards the completion of the NUJ Lagos Council Guest House in Somolu’, he empahsised.
“We will also appreciate your support when we shall be inaugurating the Journalists’ Welfare fund for some of our colleagues who are either in distress or sick. We also seek assistance in funding our Life and Health Insurance Schemes in view of hazards of our job.
Penpushing also reports that, Comrade Ronke Samo; Nigeria Union of Journalists(NUJ) Vice President, B Zone, in her speech, pointed out that all awardees must have merited it,and called on them not to rest on their oars towards society development
“I also want to congratulate all Award recipients tonight because they must have merited the Awards for Lagos NUJ to have given such Awards to them in the first place. All Award recipients received the plaques happily as it was a call for more duty and service to humanity with a view to transforming the world, by making it a better place for all’, she said.
The President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Chief Chris Isiguzo, who was also an awardee in his keynote address called for continuous review of policies that would take journalism to the next level as we have no other profession.
“We have to make sure that we reposition this profession by making it better. By the time I also end my second term as NUJ President, I will return to this noble profession as a reporter. Hence, we must do all within our reach to continue to proffer solutions that will bring about professionalism’, Isiquzo.
‘I also appeal to Media Owners to take members welfare seriously as salaries of Journalists should be paid as and when due. I congratulate Lagos NUJ for organising this event while hoping that next edition shall be better’, he added.
