Nigerian Cleric affirms sports as tool for nation building
Nigerian Cleric, Apostle Lawrence Achudume has affirmed that provision of sports facilities in schools will go a long way to boost the physical and mental development of students, which in return be of benefits for developmental growth of country.
Penpushing reports that, Achudume made this known at the commissioning of the basketball pitch of the Faith Heritage College, Eleweran, Abeokuta, pointing out that aside from making them physically fit, it will also prepare the young ones to respect authorities and rules.
The General Overseer of Victory Bible Church (VLBC) in buttressing his submission emphasized that it’s a clear fact that no one engages in any sport without having adequate knowledge of the laid down rules.
The known fearless and frankly speaking cleric stressed that, apart from preparing children for the spirit of healthy competitions and leadership roles, sports aid mental alertness, adding that quality and adequate sports facilities are needed for excellent performance in any sporting event.
Penpushing further reports that, Achudume observed that children that are exposed to sports activities are well focused, motivated and confident outside the academic activities in schools, stating that teaching should not be limited to the four walls of the classroom.
The clergyman who frowned at lack of maintenance culture and effective management of sports facilities in the country pointed out that government and school owners should ensure that the needed sports facilities are provided in schools in order to ensure overall development of students.
Penpushing also reports that, the Apostle speaking at Faith Heritage Group of Schools, educational arm of the Victory Life Bible Church International, established in 2005 posited that sports if well harnessed could be a veritable source of revenue generation and solution to social vices.
